Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is naturally produced in the human body in very small quantities. We can find it also in some foods – mostly in broccoli, spinach and organ meats. It is a substance which reminds a vitamin. As well as vitamin C and E it is a powerful antioxidant and just like vitamin B is involved in the processing nutrients into energy.

It is a saturated fatty acid containing two sulfur atoms. Lipoic acid transport in the gut is quite fast (lower pH increases the absorbability), but it requires energy. Lipoic acid is widely used in the case of many dysfunctions of the body.
