Doctor’s Best High Absorption CoQ10 with BioPerine is a dietary supplement containing coenzyme Q10 at the dose of 200 mg. The preparation was enriched in black pepper extract. Bioperine (piperine) contained in black pepper considerably increases assimilability of coenzyme Q10. Coenzyme Q10 is one of the most important lipophilic antioxidants in the organism. It is a compound naturally occurring in the human organism, however, its production gradually drops after the age of 20.

Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a vitamin-like substance, naturally appearing in all tissues and cells of the organism (ubitarius – ubiquitous). It constitutes a basic cell of the respiratory chain, enabling energy production for cell metabolism processes. Coenzyme Q10 is a non-protein carrier of electrons and protons, creating the so-called proton motive gradient, which is used by ATP synthase for the production of ATP, the basic energy element of live cells.

Coenzyme Q10 appears in two redox forms – oxygenated (ubiquinone, CoQ10) and reduced form (ubiquinol CoQ10H2). The reduced form demonstrates antioxidant properties and may constantly renew from the oxygenated form. In the properly functioning organism, both forms appear in balance.

Direct antioxidant activity of coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinol) consists in binding free radicals. The mechanism of this activity is based on releasing hydrogen atom by ubiquinol and creating a ubisemiquinone radical, which can react with molecular oxygen or other radicals. It is considered to be one of the most important endogenous factors protecting live cells from reactive oxygen forms and free radicals appearing in the process of xenobiotic metabolism. In this way, coenzyme Q10 protects from harmful, oxidative modifications of proteins and DNA. Coenzyme Q10 is also found in blood lipoproteins, being a basic antioxidant, protecting LDL fraction (low density) from oxidation, at the same reducing the chance of the development of atherosclerosis and heart diseases.

Indirect antioxidant effect of coenzyme Q10 consists in regulating antioxidant effect of vitamin E, which is the most important “sweeper” of free radicals in the lipophilic areas of the organism. It was proven that uniquinol regenerates reduced form of vitamin E, maintaining in this way its antioxidant activity. Increased activity of vitamin E in tissues was observed in case of the simultaneous supply of coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E.

With age, the production of coenzyme Q10 drops, which results in decreased efficiency of providing cells with energy. Deteriorating environmental conditions and food quality may induce the production of the excess of free radicals in the organism, which, if they are not neutralized, will contribute to the creation of genetic material mutation. These processes entail the acceleration of the organism’s aging. Coenzyme Q10 deficiency in the human organism disturbs the activity of many tissues and organs. Only a few per cent of coenzyme Q10 present in food is absorbed to the bloodstream and assimilated, additionally, during thermal processing, the inactivation of ubiquinone takes place.

Bioperine (piperine, 1-piperoylpiperide) is an active substance naturally occurring in black pepper (Piper nigrum). Research from 2002 confirmed its properties increasing biological availability of many substances. Primarily, it facilitates the absorption of other active compounds, especially coenzyme Q10, curcumin, resveratrol, vitamin B6 and amino acids.

To sum up, Doctor’s Best High Absorption CoQ10 with BioPerine is a dietary supplement, especially recommended to people, among whom increased need for coenzyme Q10 may appear, i.e. sportsmen, smokers, in the states of accelerated metabolism (e.g. hyperthyroidism), in the course of the diseases of liver, muscles, nervous system or heart failure. Moreover, it may be effective in reducing fatigue, slowing down aging processes of the organism and as prophylaxis of cardiovascular diseases.
