Cysteine is an endogenous amino acid, belonging to the group of the so-called coded amino acids. The structure of cysteinę is quite simple, but the presence of a thiol group (-SH) gives it special properties and increases its activity within the system. Cysteine is part of many proteins, e.g. keratin, which builds hair, skin, and nails. It also participates in the synthesis of collagen. In addition, cysteine is credited for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
Cysteine has a positive effect on the rate and efficiency of detoxification of the body and is successfully used in the treatment of hepatic dysfunction. It protects against the harmful effects of toxins, it also has a strong affinity for heavy metals – it easy binds to them and removes them from the body. Cysteine is also a precursor of glutathione and a component of glutathione peroxidase, which form one of the most effective, endogenous antioxidant systems. Increased supply of cysteine is recommended, among others, in the case of atherosclerosis and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
For supplementation purposes, the most commonly used form of cysteine is its free form, which is characterized by excellent bioavailability. Our offer also includes innovative formulas containing N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC). Due to the low molecular weight, it easily penetrates the cells where it releases the cysteine. It is mainly used as a support for the liver (also during and after steroid cycles).
