Apollo’s Hegemony Siberian Ginseng is a dietary supplement, the formula of which is based on the high content of Eleutherococcus senticosus extract, standardized for 0,8% eleutherosides (B+E) – the most precious active ingredients contained in the plant.
The preparation demonstrates adaptogenic effect, consisting in normalizing dysfunctions of the organism, supporting unspecific immunity and increasing adaptive abilities towards chemical, physical and biological stressors.
Eleutherococcus senticosus is a plant belonging to the family Araliaceae exhibiting adaptogen properties. Eleutherococcus occurs mainly in Korea, Japan and central and northern China as well as in Sakhalin. Species of Eleutherococcuss kind have been used is traditional Chinese medicine for more than 4000 years, but the studies carried out after discovering this species in Russia by Schrenk and Maximovich in 1955 revealed multidirectional effect and large variety of phytochemical substances.
Due to the presence of compounds with similar effect to ginsenosides Panax in the plant, this plant is often called Siberian ginseng. The complex of active substances present in the product demonstrates primarily adaptogenic, immunostimulating, immunomodulating and antidepressant effect. Extracts from Eleutherococcus senticosus also positively influence memory and concentration.
Eleutherosides – the main bioactive ingredients
The compounds that condition pharmacological effect of the product are eleutherosides: A, B, B1, C, D and F. They are mainly stored in the roots, however, their presence was verified also in leaves and fruits.
An important feature of eleutherosides is their great assimilability. These substances accumulate in the organism for maximally 4 hours. Eleutheroside B accumulates mainly in the kidneys, liver and heart, while eleutheroside E – additionally in the spleen. It is believed that eleutherosides B and E not only exhibit synergistic effect, but also designate the main direction of the activity of eleutherococcus.
Adaptogenic properties
Eleutherococcus senticosus is classified to the so-called adaptogenic plants. It means that this plant influences normalization of the organism’s functions in case of both mental and physical stress by increasing non-specific response of the organism to a given kind of stressor. Eleutherococcus senticosus contributes to the improvement of psychical and physical state of the organism and its adaptogenic properties are also manifested by regulating biosynthesis of ATP, nucleic acid and proteins in tissues.
Mechanism of anti-stress effect
The mechanism of anti-stress effect of Eleutherococcus senticosus is related primarily to inhibiting the activity of catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT). Noradrenaline (NO), released from adrenal glands in a stressful situation, is taken up by a noradrenaline receptors, in the neighborhood of which catechol transferase is also located, which is responsible for the conversion of noradrenaline to its inactive metabolite, normetanephrine. Inhibiting COMT by Eleutherococcus senticosus and actually by the two eleutherosides contained in it – eleutheroside B and E, which structurally resemble noradrenaline, contribute to the growth of binding of noradrenaline to the receptor.
We may also differentiate another mechanism of anti-stress effect of Eleutherococcus senticosus. It is related to the increased level of glucose-6-phosphate in cells. As a result of stress, the complexes of β-lipoproteins with glucocorticoids are created, which limit the transport of glucose through mucous membrane, as a result of which the activity of hexokinase taking part in transforming glucose to glucose 6-phosphate in the process of glycolysis is inhibited. Eleutherococcus senticosus therefore contributes to increasing the level of glucose 6-phosphate, which as a result of the breakdown, releases energy in the form of ATP.
Application of Siberian ginseng
Similarly to Asian and American ginseng, Siberian ginseng regulates the functions of the organism in the situation of physical and mental stress. It increases resistance to unbeneficial work conditions, such as: noise, high/low temperature, time pressure. The application of Eleutherococcus senticosus extract has positive influence on the work of the nervous system and may influence the increase of the state of readiness and the improvement of the quality of work as well as improvement of memory and concentration. Immunity to viral and bacterial infections are also strengthened.
Siberian ginseng may be used also by women during menopause and as support in case of neurosis and depression states. Eleutherococcus senticosus extracts also decrease negative influence of toxic substances and alleviate side effects related to chemo- and radiotherapy.
Summing up, Siberian Ginseng is a safe and natural dietary supplement, which is especially recommended to people prone to long-lasting stress. It is primarily recommended in the states of fatigue and weakness in order to increase general psychophysical efficiency as well as in the period of convalescence. The preparation will work well in case of overworked people with low mood and who have problems with sleep and concentration.
