Apollo’s Hegemony Vitamin D3 is a dietary supplement containing 5000IU of vitamin D per portion.
Vitamin D (cholecalciferol) – a fat-soluble vitamin with hormonal activity. Its target in cells are VDR (vitamin D receptors). Cholecalciferol is converted in the liver to calcidiol (25-OH-D3), and then, in the kidneys, to active calcitriol (1,25-OH-D3). Apart from food, it can also be obtained through synthesis in the skin as a result of the reaction between UV-B rays and 7-dehydrocholesterol.
Strong teeth and bones
The main and the most commonly known function of the vitamin is managing calcium and phosphorus assimilability and their further management in the organism. It is used particularly in small children to prevent the development of rickets. Its beneficial effect on the health of bones also stems from the fact that vitamin D receptors are located in osteoblasts, that is bone-forming cells. When the receptors are activated, cells can multiply and grow. Another group who can also significantly benefit from supplementing the vitamin are seniors, as it can increase bone toughness and reduce the frequency of falls, thanks to which the risk of fractures decreases.
Support for immune system functions
Modulating distorted immune functions seems to be particularly desirable in the case of autoimmune diseases, which are often connected with the distorted balance between cytokines Th1 and Th2. A frequent problem stemming from distorted immune system functions is atopic dermatitis (AD) in children, which often occurs along with vitamin D deficiencies, and its supplementation can help to reduce the symptoms of the disease. The situation is similar with asthma, in which case supplementing the vitamin can reduce the frequency of attacks. The vitamin also helps to reduce the risk of developing cancer, particularly in breasts, ovaries, the prostate and the colon. Cholecalciferol supplementation can be helpful in autumn and winter, as it helps to reduce the duration of the flu and colds.
Optimising hormone economy
Vitamin D deficiencies are a strong factor reducing testosterone levels in men. As it turns out, normalising blood 25-OH-D3 levels can result in an increase in testosterone, both total and free (biologically active). Maintaining the right amount of vitamin D in the system can also slow down the decrease in androgenic hormones that progresses with age, which lets you enjoy good health and well-being even in the autumn of life.
Brain health and performance
Most of us are afraid of neurological diseases, which can be extremely troublesome, not only for us, but also for our families. Maintaining the right blood vitamin D levels can help to prevent some diseases. One of the mechanisms that cause brain damage is excitotoxicity caused by the activity of glutamate. The active form of vitamin D exhibits the ability to downregulate calcium channels, thanks to which the destructive effects of excess glutamate are limited and nerve cells can live longer.
Vitamin D is also known for its effect on well-being. Scientists have demonstrated a strong correlation between low blood vitamin D levels and the occurrence of symptoms of depression, and increasing its levels can result in a significant improvement of overall life quality.
Anti-diabetic effect
Diabetes and insulin resistance are yet other diseases that vitamin D affects. As it turns out, the level of the vitamin is inversely proportional to the probability of developing diseases connected with distorted blood sugar levels. Maintaining normal blood 25-OH-D3 levels is an extremely important factor in preventing those diseases. Apart from insulin sensitivity, vitamin D is also relevant for maintaining normal body weight without excess body fat that can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes as well.
Support for cardiovascular system
Enriching the diet with a cholecalciferol supplement can improve some parameters measuring the condition of the circulatory system. One of such parameters is blood pressure. Activating VDRs makes it possible to control the production of renin, one of the factors responsible for increased blood pressure. However, blood pressure does not decrease in people who don’t suffer from hypertension. People with vitamin D deficiencies exhibit greater tendency to develop cardiovascular diseases than people with normal levels of the vitamin.
Beneficial for sportspeople
Apart from the above-described aspects, such as increasing testosterone levels and insulin sensitivity, vitamin D3 can improve workout results in other ways, too. It has the important ability to accelerate the regeneration of muscle fibre damage after intensive workout, thanks to which you can do more training sessions without overtraining. Some studies also suggest that thanks to supplementation, you can train more intensively and improve your shape.
Apollo’s Hegemony Vitamin D3 is recommended particularly for people with vitamin D deficiencies confirmed with blood tests. Supplementation is recommended the most often in autumn and winter, although it can be used all year long in some cases. It is the most beneficial for people who struggle with autoimmune diseases, fragile bones, distorted blood sugar levels, and low mood.
One of the tools that verify the quality and safety of a dietary supplement and the reliability of information on the label is to test it in an external, certified laboratory.
In the interests of conscious supplementation by our clients, the supplement was subjected to accredited analysis in the independent J.S. Hamilton laboratory to assess fully its quality and check whether the composition declared by the manufacturer is valid.
