Jarrow Formulas K-Right is a fantastically balanced complex of vitamins essential for the health of bones and the cardiovascular system. It contains a combination of three synergically active forms of vitamin K and vitamin D3. The substances contained in the preparation are fat-soluble, so for maximum assimilability, every capsule contains a small amount of extra virgin olive oil.

The preparation supplements vitamin K and D3 levels. It is recommended particularly for people susceptible to their deficiencies. The risk group are mainly patients who struggle with diseases of the kidneys, the liver, the bowel, or the malabsorption syndrome as well as those who follow improperly balanced diet lacking sources of vitamin K (green leafy vegetables, plant oils, good-quality meat, offal, or products processed by bacterial fermentation). Supplementation is also advised in the case of a visible deterioration of teeth and problems with bones (the beginning of osteoporosis, susceptibility to fractures, bone brittleness).

Vitamin K is not just one, but a few chemical compounds. The group contains vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and the family of vitamins K2 (menaquinones). Specific vitamins K2 vary in terms of double bonds and the length of the isoprene chain, thanks to which they have different biological effects and are characterised by different bioavailability.

The preparation contains both vitamin K1 and the two most beneficial forms of vitamin K2, that is MK-4 and MK-7. It is estimated that MK-7 is absorbed as many as 10 times better than other forms and stays biologically active for much longer (even up to 70 hours after consumption). MK-4, on the other hand, is absorbed the fastest and is the only one that crosses the blood-brain barrier.

Vitamin D3 is formed in the organism as a result of the effect of sunlight on the skin. Although it is called a vitamin, it fundamentally plays the role of a prohormone. It affects the functioning of insulin, it is crucial for the nervous and muscular system, and determines normal immunity. One of the most important functions it performs is ensuring the absorption and proper use of calcium and phosphorus in the organism. In that respect, it cooperates closely with vitamin K2.

Vitamins D3 and K2: the base of strong teeth and bones
Vitamins D3 and K2 form a perfect duet responsible for calcium absorption and distribution in the organism; in that way, it has a beneficial effect on teeth and guarantees the good health of bones. Calcium absorption is controlled by vitamin D3, and its metabolism depends on a few groups of proteins activated by vitamin K2.

Vitamin K2 activates osteocalcin and matrix gla proteins (MGP). MGPs prevent the deposition of calcium in arteries, thanks to which it is kept away from blood vessels and directed to its target in the organism. Osteocalcin, on the other hand, supports the deposition of calcium in teeth and bones and its binding with other minerals. Scientists have proven a close correlation between the amount of active osteocalcin and bone mineral density and increased bone endurance. Osteocalcin additionally stimulates the processes that lead to the growth of new dentine, which constitutes calcified tissue located under enamel on teeth.

The activity of vitamin K2 is complemented by vitamin D3. It is crucial for the production of calbindin – a protein that binds calcium and controls its transport. Moreover, vitamin D3 helps to strengthen bones by affecting osteoclasts (a group of cells responsible for the formation of bones and their healing after an injury).

Optimum condition of blood vessels
Scientists estimate that one of the most important causes of developing cardiovascular system diseases are disorders within arteries and blood vessels. In their optimal condition, arteries are springy and flexible, able to contract and relax in order to provide the right blood flow. With time, as calcium is deposited on their walls, arteries become stiff and lose their elasticity. The condition is referred to as atherosclerosis and is the main risk factor of heart diseases and strokes.

It has been demonstrated that although vitamin K1 has no effect whatsoever on the risk of developing cardiovascular system diseases, vitamin K2 plays a crucial role in preventing such disorders. Vitamin K2 deficiencies result in that the MGP, which controls calcium turnover, remains inactive. Consequently, calcium, controlled by nothing, is deposited in soft tissues, and the parts that become calcified the quickest are the internal and medial walls of blood vessels. Arteries and other blood vessels lose their biomechanical properties and are unable to perform their functions normally. That way the risk of hypertension, a heart attack, a stroke or embolism.

Regulation of blood coagulation
One of the most important functions performed by vitamin K1 is the control over the process of blood coagulation. It is the availability of vitamin K that determines the production of thrombine, the activation of coagulation factors (II, VII, IX and X), and anticoagulation proteins (S and C) that inhibit the formation of thrombi.

Vitamin K1 is often used in the treatment of serious diseases, that is preventing haemorrhages in new-born babies with purpura and in adults with low prothrombin levels, or for reversing the dangerous effects of excessive blood thinning after a warfarin overdose. However, it proves equally efficient in the case of more common problems, such as swellings, bruises, or “spider veins” on the skin.

To sum up, K-Right is a combination of tested vitamins that prove fantastic in terms of preventing osteoporosis, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular system diseases. The optimal forms and perfect doses of active substances translate into the efficacy and speed of the preparation.
