Achyranthes aspera (Apamarga) is a plant belonging to the family of Amaranthaceae, widespread in the areas of Asia, Africa, Australia, and America. It is recognized as a weed, whereas in the northern part of India as a medicinal plant. It contains many biologically active compounds, among which the key role is played by saponins, oleanolic acid, ecdysterone, betaine and a unique component known under a working name achyranthine.

Achyranthes aspera occupies an important place in Ayurvedic medicine. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. Indigenous inhabitants of Kenya often give it to people with malaria.

It is helpful in the case of urinary retention, it can be used in people with a tendency to excessive fluid retention in the body. It is also added to slimming supplements, especially diuretics, which are aimed at removing accumulated subcutaneous water.
