Amla (Emblica officinalis), also called Indian gooseberry or myrobalan, one of the most well-known herbs used in traditional Indian medicine - Ayurveda.

Amla fruits, commonly known as Amalaki or Dhatriphala, have been traditionally used for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes and in order to generally improve vitality and cognitive abilities. They are also considered as longevity factors. Both fruits and other parts of the plant are attributed the positive influence on glucose metabolism (it helps to decrease the level of glucose in blood), heart functioning (is conducive to reducing the level of triglycerides and improves lipid profile) and also health of the nervous system (it influences the decrease of the level of acetylcholinesterase).

The majority of properties attributed to this plant are related to its antioxidant activity, resulting from the high content of vitamin C and tannins (located in considerable amounts also in green tea).

Amla is an ingredient of the majority of Ayurvedic preparations, in which it appears in the form of fresh or dried fruits, fruit pulps or extracts. It very often appears in dietary supplements on its own or in combination with natural plant extracts. It is present in the preparations recommended to improve immunity, the work of heart and intestines and also to support detoxification processes.
