Black currant (Ribes nigrum) is a shrub cultivated in Europe, including Poland, grown in gardens and plantations. Its medicinal raw material are the leaves (Folium Ribi nigri) and fruit (Fructus Ribi nigri). The leaves are a source of biologically active compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins, organic acids, trace elements (boron and magnesium) and essential oil rich in alphapinene, geraniol, limonene. Extracts of the leaves has a diuretic effect, anti-rheumatic and anti-inflammatory. They are recommended for the treatment of the symptoms of urinary tract (kidney and bladder), allow a better elimination of excess fluid of the body and are slightly anti diaphoretic. Stabilize the operation of the gastrointestinal tract.
Leaf of black currant is a part of the natural dietary supplements supporting the treatment of urinary tract system (bladder), and weight loss. In the sports supplementation is rarely used.
