C3G (Cyanidin-3-glucoside) is an organic chemical compound belonging to the anthocyanin group. It is very common in nature – found in many fruits, vegetables, herbs and grains of some cereals. A very good source of C3G are seeds of black soybean. The compound has been thoroughly-tested, whereas its pro-health properties have been scientifically confirmed.
Like other anthocyanins, C3G is a powerful antioxidant. It protects the body against free radicals and oxidative stress. It exhibits particularly high activity in within the eyesight – it limits dangerous oxidation processes that occur in the eye, neutralizes free radicals and protects the retina of an eye. It may also accelerate the regeneration of rhodopsin. For this reason, it is a common component of supplements that support the proper vision and eye health.
Initial research suggests that C3G has a beneficial effect on body composition – it promotes fat loss and facilitates muscle building. It works probably through optimizing glucose metabolism and improving insulin sensitivity. In addition, it increases the activity of UCP-2 proteins that are involved in the process of fat burning. It has the potential to fight obesity and it can also be used by physically active people, who are shaping their figure.
In supplementation, C3G occurs in the composition of both health-promoting as well as typically sports preparations. Extracts from the seeds of black soybean (Glycine max L.) – standardized for the content of C3G – are the most popular and are promoted as a natural slimming agent.
