Cobalt (element., Symbol Co, atomic no. 27, of the triad ferrous). Its effect on the human body is not fully recognized. It is a component of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin), which regulates the formation of erythrocytes (red blood cells). Since it is not stored in the body, it must be supplied in the diet. The source of its acquisition of plant products are: onions, beans, cabbage, buckwheat and products of animal origin: clams, oysters, lard and liver. In the sports supplementation is obtained from compounds containing vitamin B12 and its coenzyme (Dibencozide), contributing to improvement of exercise capacity, it can affect the growth processes of muscle tissue.
A deficiency is
manifested with anaemia, muscle weaknesses and constipation. Lack of sufficient amounts of chromium is a threat to people not eating meat (vegetarians and vegans).
