Cowslip (Primula veris) is a Eurasian plant that grows in Poland in lowland areas. Growing in the wild is under strict protection. For medicinal purposes it is industrially grown. Medicinal raw material is the root (Radix Primulae), flower (Flos Primulae) and leaf (Folium Primulae). The most widely used is the root and flower of primrose (leaves only contain vitamin C and are anti-scorbutus). The root contains up to 10% of triterpene saponins, phenolic glycosides, essential oil, tannins and sugars, it is expectorant, diuretic, and anti-edematous and healing; flowers: flavonoids, carotenoids and saponins.
