Parcel from the UK warehouse Elecampane (Inula helenium) is a species of perennial plant of the Asteraceae family. Elecampagne root is a valuable raw material used mainly for upper airway inflammation and to improve digestion.
This plant contains primarily essential oil with sesquiterpene lactones (alantolactone, isoalantolactone, dehydroalantolactone and products of alantolanctone breakdown), polysaccharides (mainly inulin), triterpenes, polyacetylenes and phytosterols (beta-sitosterol and stigmasterol).
Elecampane is chiefly a plant with an expectorant action – it thins mucus and helps remove it through coughing. Extracts from this raw material has also antibacterial, antiparasitic, cholagogic and biligenic properties.
