Guarana (Paulinia cupana) is a plant of the family Sapindaceae, of which seeds contain purine alkaloid (caffeine), acting as a stimulant on the body of the athlete. The caffeine content in the seeds of guarana is between 4 and 8%. Powdered seeds are the raw material for supplements. The extracts of Guarana supports the athlete’s body, they increase exercise and endurance capacity (especially aerobic). Guarana is also a component of fat burners. It is often combined with extracts of various plants (e.g. Green tea, cayenne pepper, herbal and synthetic substances). Besides infusions, guarana is in the form of a one-component water soluble powders, capsules, and bottled beverages and concentrates.
