Mucilages are found in plant material as secondary products of cell membranes. Are used as cough suppressants, expectorants (mallow, licorice), protecting and influencing the digestive tract (strengthen the intestinal peristalsis and defecation), are used in the treatment of ulcers of the stomach and intestines (by binding significant amounts of hydrochloric acid). Despite obtaining positive results in the treatment with mucilages, treatment should not be extended in time due to adverse metabolic (e.g. the retention of fat in the body). An advantage of the treatment with mucilages is the neutralization of toxins and neutralization of poisoning heavy metals and medicines. They are analgesic, anti-inflammatory and facilitate the healing of wounds and injuries.
